The Las Vegas Raiders are committed to Geno Smith for at least two years and have an option for a fourth if he plays well. However, at 34, he's not going to be the quarterback of the future with the team.
Las Vegas waited until the sixth round to address quarterback when they selected former North Dakota State standout Cam Miller. Anything is possible, but it's unlikely that Miller is the quarterback of the future either.
The fact that Smith is under contract for at least three seasons gives the team some flexibility, but they'll likely take a close look at draftable quarterbacks until they find one they see as a future starter.
One player the Raiders may want to start scouting is Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola. There was a lot of hype for him coming into his freshman year, but he struggled. Raiola threw just 13 touchdowns to 11 interceptions.
He's still a young player and should improve as he gains more experience. Plus, the Raiders are already a team he's eyeing.
“I was kind of pissed (when the Titans selected Cam Ward No. 1 in the 2025 NFL Draft), I wanted to go to Tennessee. I wanted to get drafted by Tennessee or Vegas,” Raiola said on the May 6 episode of "Bussin' With the Boys."
Raiola isn't draft-eligible until 2027 at the earliest. His timeline could line up well with the Raiders if he's a quarterback they like. That said, he has to show a lot more before he can start thinking about which NFL teams he wants to play for.
