Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles made their decision defensive tackle Jordan Davis' future on Wednesday.
The team opted to exercise Davis' fifth-year option, according to FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz.
"Sources: The #Eagles are exercising the fifth-year option on DT Jordan Davis, locking in a guaranteed $12.9M for the 2026 season. Davis has started every game over the last two years in Philadelphia," Schultz wrote on X/Twitter.
What is a Fifth-Year Option?
For those who are unfamiliar, a fifth-year option is a contract feature in the NFL that applies only to players selected in the first round of the draft. While rookie deals typically span four years, this option allows teams to extend the contract for a fifth year. Teams must make the decision after the player's third season.
The salary for that extra year ultimately comes down to based on performance factors like Pro Bowl nods and playing time, and becomes fully guaranteed once exercised. This option gives teams added flexibility to retain top talent without immediately committing to a long-term deal.
Davis, 25, hasn't been the dominant player that the Eagles had originally hoped for since they drafted him out of Georgia at 13th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. However, this move just means they believe in his ability to take a step forward in 2025 and beyond.
In three seasons so far, Davis has appeared in 47 games making 39 starts.
