The Las Vegas Raiders have been beset by injuries this season, and that's especially true on the defensive side of the ball. But the offense has been plagued by injuries, also, and the running back position hasn't been immune to that.
Entering Week 13, the Raiders are set to be without running back Zamir White (quad) once again after he was ruled out on Thursday. But the Raiders also have a question mark with running back Alexander Mattison (ankle), who is questionable.
Mattison missed last week's game but managed to take a step toward returning thanks to an upgrade in practice participation during the week.
Here's the latest update on the Raiders running back and his chances of playing against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Mattison was able to log three limited practices during the week, which is an upgrade from last week after he didn't practice at all.
Even still, Mattison isn't guaranteed to play after drawing a questionable tag on the Raiders' final injury report on Thursday.
It looks like the decision on Mattison will be made right before kickoff on Friday, so there's no direct answer for whether or not he will play as of this writing.
However, given the fact that Mattison wasn't able to turn in a full practice during the week would suggest he's on the wrong side of questionable and has a better chance to sit than play. We'll update this page when more information is known.
In Mattison's absence last week, the Raiders deployed a combination of Ameer Abdullah and Sincere McCormick, with the former seeing eight carries to the latter's five.
McCormick had the better showing on the ground, with his 33 yards on 6.6 yards per carry being superior to Abdullah's 28 yards on 3.5 yards per tote. Abdullah was involved in the passing game, though, and reeled in five of six targets for 37 yards and a touchdown.
If Mattison sits again, we would expect a similar approach, with Abdullah and McCormick splitting carries and Abdullah being the primary pass-catching back.
It'll be tough sledding for whoever is carrying the rock for Las Vegas, though, as the Kansas City Chiefs sport the No. 3 run defense in the NFL.
