Patrick Beverley says his comments about Stephen Curry were misunderstood.
Patrick Beverley is no longer in the NBA. The 36-year-old now plays in Israel and is enjoying the final few years of his basketball career. During his time in the Association, Beverley was known for his elite defense and constant trash-talking.
Apart from playing good defense, the former Los Angeles Lakers guard made a name for himself as one of the biggest trash-talkers in the league. Evidently, the 3x All-Defensive guard has some memorable comments.
However, Pat Bev's one of the most viral claims was when he seemingly claimed the next five years would be his during a 2019 game versus Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors.
Beverley denies his infamous statement
In recent years, the 6'2" guard has used his podcast to share his views on everything in basketball. Keeping that in mind, Beverley recently debunked his viral comments to Curry in 2019 in an episode of the Pat Bev Podcast via X (formerly known as Twitter).
"Nah," Beverley said. "The Clippers, we just put the monster team together as we thought, right? As we thought, looking back on it. It was like, 'Nah, you had your time and now it was time to switch it up.' It wasn't ever like 5 years, nah." But it was good, so you know I'm like, 'Okay, alright. Let me run with this.' The internet is the internet. It played out the way it was supposed to play."
At the time, Beverley was already 31 years old. Hence, the then-L.A. Clippers guard's trash-talk became a viral meme. Even if the veteran guard didn't make the revelation, he never reached the same heights as the Baby-Faced Assassin.
While Curry went on to win another NBA Championship in 2021, the former Clippers guard never got a chance to even compete on the biggest stage in the league.
Pat Bev is enjoying his time in Israel
Due to the recent conflict between Israel and Palestine, many have been worried about Pat Bev. However, the former NBA guard has clarified that he's having a blast in Israel.
In fact, the Chicago native claimed feeling like LeBron James in Israel. Now, that's a good way to spend your final years as a basketball player, albeit outside of the U.S.
"I leave games, and the guys that I play against pictures, and the coaches that I play against want pictures, and the fans that I go against, that boo me, I leave, and there's 30 kids outside, and they all want pictures. And this is every country we go to," Beverley said.
Although Beverley is currently playing in Israel, he would love to play in the NBA once again. However, does he still have enough fuel in his tank to get a spot on an NBA team?
Well, the only way he may make a comeback is by accepting a veteran role to lead the next generation of young stars in the league.
