J.J. Watt was born in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, back in 1989. He played college football at Wisconsin. So yes, growing up in the 1990s in that state, you could expect that he was a Green Bay Packers fan. If you needed further proof, he offered one on social media during the weekend.
The Packers official X account created a post asking for followers to "drop elite ball knowledge, but the topic is all-time underappreciated Packers." As a big Packers fan who knows ball, J.J. Watt replied: Samkon Gado.
Undrafted in 2005, Gado was a running back who played parts of two seasons in Green Bay. Promoted to the active roster after Ahman Green suffered a serious injury, Gado had 582 rushing yards and seven total touchdowns in his first NFL season for Green Bay.
In 2006, with Mike Sherman out and Mike McCarthy in as a head coach , Samkon Gado moved to fullback and then was traded earlier in the regular season to the Houston Texans for fellow running back Vernand Morency. In Houston, Gado reunited with Sherman, who became an assistant head coach. Gado's first NFL team had been the Kansas City Chiefs as a rookie, and after the Texans he also played for the Miami Dolphins. St. Louis Rams, and Tennessee Titans, and he was cut before the 2010 season — his last in the NFL.
'Watt if'
J.J. Watt was the Defensive Player of the Year three times, First-Team All-Pro five times, Second-Team All-Pro twice, and led the league in sacks twice. He made the 2010s All-Decade Team. Watt was the 11th overall pick in 2011, and the Packers had no real shot to get him with the 32nd overall pick right after winning the Super Bowl.
However, Green Bay did have a chance to sign Watt in free agency ten years later, after he was released by the Houston Texans. He ended up signing a two-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals. In his second season in Phoenix, and his final year in the NFL, Watt had 12.5 sacks.
