Jaguars make a post-draft splash by signing former Chiefs pass rusher

NFL free agents often find a minor wave of activity coming their way following each season's NFL Draft, and that's likely to prove true again in 2025. One former Kansas City Chiefs defender found a quick home following the completion of the three-day event.

NFL reporter Adam Schefter broke the news that former Chiefs pass rusher Emmanuel Ogbah has found a home with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jags are Ogbah's fourth NFL franchise since being selected back in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Terms of the deal were announced as a one-year contract worth up to $5 million.

The Jags turned heads at the top of this year's draft with their decision to move up and take Travis Hunter with the second overall selection. That move should significantly improve the team's secondary, but the team failed to make a single selection along the defensive front in this year's draft. Ogbah's addition gives them rotational help behind Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker.

The Jaguars made a quiet but intriguing move after the draft by landing former Chiefs standout Emmanuel Ogbah.

As recently as last season, the Chiefs were interested in signing Ogbah for a second stint with the team, but he returned to the Miami Dolphins instead ahead of free agency. At the time, the Chiefs were waiting for Charles Omenihu to heal and were looking for further depth behind Mike Danna, George Karlaftis, and Felix Anudike-Uzomah.

The Chiefs had already employed Ogbah for a single season back in 2019, an injury-shortened campaign—due to a torn pectoral muscle—in which he still had 5.5 sacks in only 10 games with 4 starts.

Ogbah has put together an impressive career after being drafted by the Browns in '16. After Cleveland decided to move on from him following the 2018 season, Ogbah looked like a late-bloomer with the Chiefs. The Dolphins signed him in 2020 and he put up consecutive campaigns with 9 sacks apiece.

In nine NFL seasons, Ogbah has 112 quarterback hits and 47.5 sacks in 123 total games. He also has 9 forced fumbles, 2 interceptions, and 317 total tackles.
