Jake Paul’s official fight purse for last night has been released by the California State Athletic Commission, and it’s drastically different to his last fight.
Back in November, the social media star was said to have pocketed $30million to face boxing icon Mike Tyson in an eight-round bout on Netflix. But less than a year later, his win over former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr looks to have earned him just $300,000, or one percent of that purse.
It is commonplace for disclosed purses to be wildly different to what fighters actually take home, particularly in states with high tax rates such as California. But it is still an intriguing insight into Paul’s earning potential after returning to DAZN pay-per-view from Netflix.
Jake Paul’s disclosed purse for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr revealed
According to the California State Athletic Commission, Jake Paul earned just $300,000 as a guaranteed purse for his fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, which he won by unanimous decision after ten rounds. Indeed, the former world champion pocketed at least double that by earning a $750,000 payout.
That all pales in comparison to cruiserweight world champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez, whose disclosed purse was a massive $1.5million to face Yuniel Dorticos in the co-main event. The challenger also earned $300,000 for his effort.

Former UFC champion Holly Holm made a successful return to the ring, and also a profitable one earning $100,000 for her prelim headliner against Yolanda Vega. However, it must be noted that these disclosed purses are often far from the full earnings that a fighter will make.
Paul has a number of high-profile sponsorships, and is also the owner of the company that put on the event; Most Valuable Promotions. His earnings will include an undisclosed percentage of the record-breaking $1.53million gate and whatever the fight does on pay-per-view, among other payments.
Jake Paul reportedly made $30million to fight Mike Tyson
It has been reported that for his November outing with Mike Tyson at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Paul earned a whopping $30million. That number has never been fully verified but the YouTuber-turned-boxer has claimed to have earned on the lower end of the $30-40million range.
“It was like low 30s. Low 30 million,” he said when asked how much he got paid to fight Tyson on The Iced Coffee Hour podcast. “I haven’t announced it yet, but I bought a ranch. A pretty expensive ranch. It wasn’t like right away after the Tyson fight, but I’ve been wanting to buy a ranch for the past 15 years.
“It’s kind of been my dream and why I work so hard. I think it’s just I love everything to do with it, hunting, jet skiing, ATVs, fishing, horses, cows, and all that stuff.
“I grew up going to a cabin a lot with my dad, and so I’ve always just wanted to go back to that. I’ve been working towards buying a ranch for a really long time. It cost $39 million… It’s massive. It’s a little bit bigger than I wanted, but when I got there, I was like, ‘I have to buy this’.”
