Although Jax Taylor took some time off to get in-patient treatment and focus on his mental health last summer, we’re now getting a closer look at what led up to the important decision in Season 2’s Episode 2 of The Valley — and who helped to push Jax into it.
“I’m going to this mental hospital — this mental clinic, or mental health clinic,” Jax confesses to Danny Booko and Jason Caperna in the above preview of Episode 2. “This place I’ve researched a little bit.”
After confirming he's “checking in” for an inpatient stay, Jax adds, “I’m just trying to wait for this assessment guy. This guy’s supposed to call me back. I’m just getting frustrated. A week long of me having this conversation 50 f—king times. I get it. I got it. You guys are just on the end of me talking about the same sh—t over and over and over.”
Who encouraged Jax to get mental health treatment?
Jax admitted there was one big factor in his decision to seek treatment: family. “It’s tough for me to ask for help. But, I talked to my sister, and she was like, ‘You should go,’” he says in the preview for Episode 2.
He previously revealed those close to him had pushed him during the Season 3, Episode 2 of executive producer Alex Baskin’s Bravo’s Hot Mic Podcast.
“It was probably the hardest thing of my life. It was very scary,” Jax said on the podcast. “My friends picked me up. They kind of had an intervention.”
He ended up checking into treatment in July 2024.
“I was coming home from the gym, and my buddies were there, and just saying, ‘Listen, it’s time for you to go,’” Jax admitted on the podcast. “It was a lot of people, and — not to break the fourth wall or anything — but my manager saw me kind of going a little bit off the rails, and they said, ‘Maybe this is a good move for you.’ So, I honestly have to thank them because I was bad. It was really, really bad. I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t go to this institution.”
What event caused Jax to realize he needed mental health treatment?
As Jax tells Danny and Jason in the Episode 2 preview, “I mean, there’s a lot of issues."
Additionally, both Jax and Brittany have said that the breaking point in their separation was his reaction to Brittany’s “hookup” with Jax’s friend, Julian.
“I just saw the iPad, and she was still talking to Julian and sending him pictures, like naked pictures, and pictures of my son,” Jax said on the Hot Mic podcast. “I lost it … that was where I hit the bottom of the barrel.”
Hear Jax open up about being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and PTSD during his inpatient stay.
