The New York Jets are currently hiring for a new head coach and general manager as one of several NFL franchises that have cleared house at the end of another losing campaign. According to the rumors, they've got some potential interest in importing a whole new set of leaders from the Kansas City Chiefs.
Specifically, the Jets are wanting to interview Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo for the role of head coach and Chiefs exec Mike Borgonzi to potentially take over as general manager. Together they would infuse the AFC West team with the experience and culture of a team that's won three of the last five Super Bowls.
The Jets are doing their due diligence for each pivotal role, however, and both Spags and Borgonzi are just one of several candidates for each. For example, check out the roll call when it comes to persons of interest for the GM opening.
As for head coach, Spags is just one of a few coaching candidates so far. Rex Ryan, Mike Vrabel, and Ron Rivera have all been interviewed already, but nearly a dozen more are reportedly in the running. It's a list that also includes Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, Bills OC Joe Brady, and even the Chiefs' Matt Nagy.
Spagnuolo has other irons in the fire as well, however. The Las Vegas Raiders are also reportedly interested in bringing him in for an interview for the recently fired Antonio Pierce. It's also hard to tell whether he'd really be interested in leaving Kansas City and the legacy he's built alongside Andy Reid in this current run of success.
As for Borgonzi, the Chiefs' assistant general manager is in his 16th year with the team and has interviewed with multiple organizations in the past. He is also drawing interest from the Tennessee Titans this offseason as well
