Joan Vassos Faces Major Life Shift as Her Mom Plans Move to Kansas — “Everything Could Change”

The Golden Bachelorette season 1 lead, Joan Vassos, is close with her mother, Mary deKramer, so is her mom moving to Kansas because that's where Joan spends the majority of her time? Joan dated 24 Golden men in season 1, but she had a frontrunner all along in Chock Chapple. That's why it wasn't surprising when she gave him her final rose and he proposed. The pair have been engaged for almost a year, but it hasn't been easy, as they carry on a long-distance relationship. Joan is from Maryland, and Chock's native state is Kansas.

The pair have been endeavoring to split their time between their hometowns, on vacation, at Bachelor Nations engagements, as well as spending time in New York (where they previously said they wanted to settle). That said, Joan seemingly spends most of her time in Kansas, which means she is away from her children and 93-year-old mother. Since Joan seems to be catering her life to Chock and his locale, it's not out of the question for Joan, who is her family's matriarch after her mom, to want to have her mom closer to where she spends most of her time.

Joan Is Extremely Family Oriented

But Is In A Long-Distance Relationship With Chock

While Joan was on The Golden Bachelorette season 1, she made it clear to viewers and her potential suitors that her family was her number one priority. She relayed that she needed a man that would fit into her life and blend with her family. Before going on the show, Joan showcased that she hosted weekly family dinners and was the glue that held everyone together. However, her long-distance relationship with Chock is making her old lifestyle hard. Joan is making sacrifices to be with Chock, and she may be considering having her family come to her in Kansas.

While the thought and sense behind having her family come to her in Kansas, where she and Chock seem to be settling more, is a good idea, it wouldn't work in terms of Joan's mom moving most likely.

Mary currently lives in a retirement community called The Overlook in Maryland. It's unclear how long Mary has been a resident there, but she has not been under Joan's direct care.

Mary lives in the community with her friends and neighbors, and likely won't want to uproot her life in order to be near to Joan, as she was before Joan's reality TV fame.

Besides, since Joan has grown accustomed to not having to take care of her elderly mother, it has given her the breathing room to be able to pursue her connection with Chock all over the place. Joan can live in Kansas if she wants. Her children are grown and are supportive of her The Golden Bachelorette journey, which means she has the freedom to pursue her relationship the way she wants, and that means not needing her mother to be near her, since she is already being looked after in her retirement community.

Joan shared a heartfelt Mother's Day post on Instagram for both her mom and her late husband's mother. In the photo, Joan posed in the middle of the two women smiling. "Thank you for being a strong, beautiful example of love in motion," Joan penned about her mother-in-law.

"Thank you for the years of unconditional love, wisdom, and warmth. We are all better because of you. I love you more than words can ever say," Joan wrote about Mary.

The Golden Bachelorette brought Joan the next love of her life, but she has had to spend a lot less time with her family. However, Joan seems to be reconciling that, and she isn't in a position where she has to look after her mom, so she is free to settle in Kansas, where she spends most of her time.
