WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis faced arguably the toughest test of his career against Lamont Roach Jr. this weekend in Brooklyn. The fight featured a controversial late moment concerning a possible knockdown that wasn’t scored, and the bout went the full 12-round distance.

After 12 rounds, Davis vs. Roach went to a majority draw, with Davis retaining his WBA lightweight title. Their battle resulted in immediate calls for a rematch, although it’s uncertain if the rematch will come to fruition for Davis and Roach’s next fight.

Joe Rogan, a longtime MMA analyst and diehard boxing fan, was in awe of Davis and Roach while watching their ‘Fight of the Year’ candidate.

In a recent Instagram post, Rogan reacted to the Davis vs. Roach boxing match.

“Watching the replay of the outstanding title fight last night between [Gervonta Davis] and [Lamont Roach Jr.]. I had never seen Lamont fight before, but I’m a big fan now,” Rogan said of Davis vs. Roach. “Fight was a draw, but it was an amazing contest and I really hope they run it back.”

Davis fought to a draw for the first time in his career after winning each of his first 30 professional fights, including recent wins over Frank Martin and Ryan Garcia. Leading up to the Roach fight, Davis teased retirement, although it’s uncertain if he’ll stand firm in that position.

Roach extended his seven-fight unbeaten streak with the majority draw against Davis. Many boxers, including Terence Crawford and Jake Paul, believed Roach deserved the nod on the judges’ scorecards.

Gervonta Davis lost a pre-fight bet to Lamont Roach Jr. after draw

As the Davis vs. Roach rematch speculation moves on, Davis owes Roach six figures after a pre-fight bet made at Friday’s official weigh-in. During their staredown, Davis bet Roach $250k that he would finish him inside the ring, but the fight went the full 12 rounds.

Davis claimed that when he took a knee in a bizarre moment in the fight, it was due to hair grease getting into his eyes and impacting his vision. The referee opted not to score it as a knockdown in Roach’s favor, which would’ve been a pivotal moment in the fight.

If Davis doesn’t hang up the gloves, a rematch with Roach could make a lot of sense for both sides. But in the meantime, Rogan wants to see the Davis vs. Roach rematch come to fruition after watching their 12-round war.
