Muhammad Ali had one performance that Joe Rogan holds in a higher regard than any other.
The career of ‘The Greatest’ is an interesting one, with the icon having to take three years out during his prime after refusing to be drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
While Ali eventually bounced back and reclaimed his heavyweight throne, this part of his story leaves fans wondering what might have been.
A lot of his famous showings inside the squared circle came after his return. However, the voice of the UFC believes his best display came before his suspension.
Joe Rogan says Muhammad Ali’s best performance was against Cleveland Williams
On a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, the host welcomed Jim Lampley onto his show, and the pair discussed Muhammad Ali.
While the legend was renowned for his trash talk, with Ali once fighting Joe Frazier in the middle of an interview, it goes without saying that he possessed a truly phenomenal skill set as well.
With that in mind, Rogan is furious that Ali lost so much of his prime, bringing up the one showing that he believes was Ali’s best.
The podcaster said: “They took three years of his prime, that’s what is crazy. I always point to the Cleveland ‘Big Cat’ Williams fight.”
“Lampley agreed: That was his best,” with Rogan emphasizing: “Yes.”
The MMA aficionado continued: “He didn’t train for three years, that’s part of the problem. At 30 years old at that day and age, it was such a different world.
“They just robbed him, they robbed us too, because he came back and he was a different fighter then, he was much more easy to hit and he relied on his chin more, he didn’t have the fleet of foot movement that he had before then.
“As a fan of boxing, it drives me crazy, because can you imagine what we would’ve seen in those three years had Ali never been robbed?”
Muhammad Ali got revenge on fighter who reportedly dropped him in sparring by knocking him out
Ali’s third-round knockout victory against Williams was undeniably exceptional.
However, that’s not the only big win on the warrior’s record.
