After winning the WBC middleweight title against Sebastian Zbik in 2011, Julio Cesar Chavez made his first title defense just five months later against Peter Manfredo Jr.
On June 28, Jake Paul returns to the boxing ring following his controversial win over Mike Tyson last November, when he takes on former WBC middleweight champion, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Paul has received a lot of criticism ahead of his fight against Chavez Jr as he has compared himself to the great Muhammad Ali, which hasn’t sat well with fans.
In Chavez Jr’s WBC middleweight title fight against Sebastian Zbik, many claimed that he ‘stole’ the belt and was controversially awarded the decision.
Despite that, in his first title defense against Peter Manfredo Jr, Chavez Jr showcased his skills in dominant fashion.

Chavez Jr almost knocked opponent out of the ring during title defense
Following comments after his title win, Chavez Jr wanted to silence the doubters in his first title defense, which came just five months after winning the strap.
Early on in their clash in the Reliant Arena in Houston, Texas, Manfredo Jr outworked the champion and looked to be finding his feet in his second title fight.
Despite being marginally outworked in the opening rounds of the fight, Chavez Jr landed a few heavy shots, potentially stealing the eyes of the judges.
However, the challenger continued to put forward pressure on Chavez Jr, hoping that he would eventually crumble under the pressure.
Chavez Jr, though, fought well on the back foot and in round five he landed a huge counter right hand, wobbling Manfredo Jr who immediately retreated to the ropes.
The champion chased him down and unloaded a barrage of punches, almost sending Manfredo Jr through the ropes as he continued to wobble on his feet. Although he didn’t drop to the ground, the referee stepped in and waved off the fight as the challenger failed to defend himself adequately.
Jake Paul promises to make Chavez Jr ‘the next meme’
Despite boxing purists not being a fan of ‘The Problem Child’, the eyes he has brought to the sport over the past few years are undeniable.
Having scored huge knockout wins over the likes of Tyron Woodley and Mike Perry, Paul has promised to make Chavez Jr ‘the next meme’, claiming that this is the worst era to be knocked out in due to the popularity of social media.
Despite his fight against Chavez Jr being just a few weeks out, Paul has already listed his potential next opponents, hoping to continue his controversial run in the sport.
