Kail Lowry Says Her Goal Is to Have People Forget She Came From ‘Teen Mom’; Claims She Was “Pigeonholed” By Show’s Editing

Teen Mom Kailyn Lowry's Entire Family Has Covid, Apologizes for Possibly Infecting Others

Kail Lowry got her start in the entertainment industry by appearing on the Teen Mom franchise, but in a new interview, she says she hopes everyone will eventually forget she was once a knocked-up kid on an MTV reality show.

In a new interview with People, Kail stated that she wants to be known for her business endeavors, rather than her reality TV past.

“I hope to potentially keep building the brands to the point where people don’t necessarily remember me as someone on ‘Teen Mom,'” she told the magazine.

Surprisingly, Kail said she also hopes to eventually be able to remove her mug from the spotlight.

“Because clearly I just hate the attention…”

“I hope to build successful brands to the point where I’m able to take a step back from [them], because I think a part that gets overlooked a lot is that everything that I do rides on my name,” she said. “With that comes the fact that I was on ‘Teen Mom,’ because that’s where my following came from… It’s building something to a place where I can take a step back and not be the face of everything. I think that would be the goal for the next 15 years.”

While Kail hopes people forget that they met her on reality TV, she stated she doesn’t regret signing on for ‘Teen Mom 2.’

“I’m thankful that I was on it,” she said. “I don’t have many regrets about it. To this day, I think it was the right decision.”

“But if we could forget that whole “Wawa” fiasco, though, that would be great.”

Kail quit ‘Teen Mom 2’ in May 2022, and later revealed on a podcast that her decision to leave the show was based heavily on the fact that she had become unexpectedly pregnant (again!), this time by her now-fiancée Elijah Scott.

“Yeah, I left in 2022 when I got pregnant with my fifth son [Rio] because I was like, ‘I can’t, we’re not doing this,’” she said on the Just Trish podcast in 2024. (Kail did not actually confirm that she had given birth to Baby No. 5 until nearly a year after her son Rio was born.)

During that same 2024 interview, Kail confirmed that she was tired of being made to talk about her baby daddy drama on ‘Teen Mom 2,’ which also played a part in her quitting the show.

Kail during most of her final season of ‘Teen Mom 2’…

In her new interview with People, the mom of seven said that she often felt “pigeonholed” by how she was portrayed on ‘Teen Mom 2,’ and that she started being very selective about what she would film about, due to how the editing on the show would make her look and fans would react.

“I think closer to the time that I decided to leave the franchise, it was more of [me feeling] like, ‘I am making very calculated decisions and sharing only certain things or making myself available at certain times for certain reasons,'” Kail said. “It made it very difficult for production to create a full picture and full story for me on the show.

“At that point it was like, ‘I have to think about how it’s going to play out for the viewers and that is how people will perceive whatever it is that I’m going through or doing.'”

“We miss the good ol’ days. That Kail vs. Briana was reality TV GOLD!”

“And that was really, really hard for me because I wasn’t the same person that I was when I started,” she added. “…We would not be able to tell the full story the way that we wanted to and the way that it really happened. You’re edited down to four minutes a cast member, and I didn’t want certain things to not be shown. I wanted more of a full picture.”
