It’s no secret Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is a master of the game. Turns out, safety Justin Reid feels the same way, especially when he learned how extensive his playbook was.

Reid has been a highly successful NFL head coach, first with the Philadelphia Eagles from 1999-2012 and then with the Kansas City Chiefs from 2013 to the present. During his 26-year head coaching career, his teams have compiled an impressive 258-144-1 record, including 26-16-0 in the playoffs.

With the Eagles, Reid led the team to a 130-93-1 record and one NFC Championship. After being fired in 2012, he joined the Chiefs and has guided them to a dominant 128-51-0 record, including three Super Bowl championships in 2019, 2022, and 2023.

Reid is known for his innovative West Coast offense and ability to get the best out of his quarterbacks, several of whom have won individual awards under his tutelage, such as Michael Vick, Eric Berry, and the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes. His teams have consistently been among the NFL’s elite, and he is widely regarded as one of the league’s premier head coaches of the 21st century.

Kansas City Chiefs’ Justin Reid Says Andy Reid’s Playbook Is The Deepest He Has Ever Known

Just recently, Reid appeared in an episode of Green Light with Chris Long. In it, the Kansas City Chiefs safety boasted about his head coach’s playbook and how deep it was.

“This is by far the deepest playbook that I’ve ever been a part of. We have so many different twists and schemes and guys just buy in. They buy into the playbook, they buy into the scheme and trust that what Spags cooks up week in and week out is going to work. So rush as a group.

The details are extremely important. If you have contained, you have contained. If you were supposed to rush through the B gap and contain there and then pop outside late to contain the quarterback, you do that. And it’s not always about you making a play, it’s about you setting up your teammate to make the play and we buy into that,” Reid said.

During the last playoffs, Kansas City continued their dominant run, making their sixth consecutive AFC Championship Game appearance. They defeated the Ravens on the road to reach their fourth Super Bowl in five years. In a rematch of Super Bowl LIV, the Chiefs defeated the 49ers 25-22 in overtime, with their 2nd-ranked defense playing a key role throughout the playoffs.

With Reid running things as Chiefs’ head coach, they have a strong chance of defending their title soon. And with how deep his playbook is, expect fans to be excited about how the team will perform on the field soon.
