Kristen Doute Explains ‘Shift’ Between Her Journey on Vanderpump Rules and The Valley

Vanderpump Rules' fires cast members over past racist acts - Los Angeles Times

It’s hard to imagine the legacy of Vanderpump Rules without Kristen Doute. The early seasons wouldn’t be the same without Kristen’s messy antics to drive the drama. Seriously, who knows where we’d be if Kristen and Jax Taylor hadn’t infamously hooked up while watching Drive years ago? Recently, Kristen made her way back onto Bravo thanks to The Valley. Kristen, Jax, Brittany Cartwright and some newbies tried convincing us they had grown up and matured beyond drunken debauchery. As The Valley’s debut season quickly proved, that wasn’t exactly the case.

Despite still being involved in messy drama on The Valley, Kristen recently spoke to Us Weekly about all of the growing she’s done since her VPR days.

“I showed a lot of restraint that viewers probably were not expecting,” she said of The Valley. “And that had a lot to do with all of the therapy and work I put into myself.” Do we think that Kristen showed any restraint on The Valley? That seems up for debate!

In general, Kristen wishes that fans saw her grow after her firing from VPR. “I wish that would’ve been filmed [to] show the changes I had chosen to make — that education, the learning, really humbling myself and listening,” she then said. “People could understand why there was such a shift between the Vanderpump Rules Kristen that everyone knew to The Valley Kristen.”

Again, do we think there was such a drastic shift on The Valley? Kristen screaming about someone having a secret boyfriend in a hotel lobby seems like Classic Kristen behavior. Still, she did also take time to reflect.

Finally, Kristen was thankful that fans allowed her to grow at her own pace. “They’re not pinpointing me and caging me into this ‘Crazy Kristen’ narrative that was [shown on] Vanderpump Rules throughout my 20s and 30s,” she concluded. Ultimately, I guess we’ll have to wait for Season 2 to see more of this growth that Kristen is talking about.

The Valley is available to stream on Peacock.
