The two heavyweight legends both ruled the division during different eras, with Ali retiring in 1981 and Tyson beginning his career in 1985.

Joe Rogan sparks debate: Could Mike Tyson have defeated Muhammad Ali at his prime? | Marca

Ali was a three-time world heavyweight champion, while ‘Iron Mike’ holds the record as the youngest heavyweight champion in history, with boxing fans often disagreeing over who would have won if they both met in their primes.

One man who fought both boxers was another fighter that is deemed as one of the greatest ever, Larry Holmes.

Holmes took on Ali in his rival’s penultimate fight in 1980, claiming a tenth round stoppage victory, with many acknowledging that ‘The Greatest’ was far past his best at that point.

‘The Easton Assassin’ then met Tyson in 1988, with ‘Iron Mike’ claiming a fourth round knockout win to retain his titles.

Having felt what it was like to be in the ring with each fighter, Holmes has told TMZ who he feels would come out on top, predicting that Ali would be victorious by knockout.

“Mike Tyson would get beat up because he’s a face fighter. He comes in down low, and Muhammad Ali is a jabber. He’d get that jab in there just like he did with Joe Frazier.

So, Mike Tyson would have to get around that jab, and he’d have a lot of problems getting around that jab. Mike Tyson would’ve been knocked out by Muhammad Ali.”

Holmes has also recently named who he deems to be the best heavyweight of all time, but it wasn’t Ali.
