Despite the considerable age difference, both Tyson Fury and Mike Tyson are in camp and working towards their next fights.
‘Iron’ Mike officially retired in 2005 after losing to men he would have once beaten back in 2005. Since then he has had one exhibition fight with Roy Jones Jr in 2020 that was ruled a draw, but this year, he has been lured back to the squared circle for a fight with YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul.
The 28-year-old has had 11 fights and put together a few stoppage wins against low-level opponents and now finds himself set to face the former undisputed heavyweight world champion across eight two-minute rounds wearing 14 oz gloves.
Fury meanwhile is hoping to exact revenge on Oleksandr Usyk, the only man to ever beat him in a ring. That was back in May when Usyk became the undisputed champion and the rematch is in December in Saudi Arabia.
Ahead of that, former heavyweight champion Larry Holmes, who was stopped by Tyson back in 1988, was asked who would have won a fight between the two in their prime.
“I’ve got to give [Fury] a chance because he’s long and tall he has long arms and he can jab. He can do a lot of things. If he trained hard enough I think he’s going to beat Mike Tyson.”
For now, Fury will hope to beat Usyk and set up a second chance at unification against whoever wins the Anthony Joshua versus Daniel Dubois fight for the IBF title at Wembley next weekend.
