Las Vegas Raiders decide to bring a handful of players back from the 2024 season

Draft Pick: DT Matthew Butler

The Las Vegas Raiders had a lot of things that they needed to do this offseason, and having a new regime being tasked to do them probably isn't something they hoped for. The Raiders had to change regimes, though, and, this one is better on paper.

Coming into this offseason, the Raiders had two huge things that had to be done after getting a new head coach and new general manager -- get a quarterback, which they did in former Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith, and give Maxx Crosby an extension. They have done both, and are now focused on the rest of the roster and team building aspect of it all.

And with that, comes filling out your roster with depth pieces, role players, and even practice squad guys who may not even see the field. The Raiders had 25 total unrestricted free agents, and even more free agents when you add in restricted and exclusive rights guys, too. They also had to figure all of those out.

They have lost players to teams who have massively overpaid, like the Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots, and they have retained guys like Adam Butler and Malcolm Koonce.

But, a lot of that happened some time ago. On Monday, the Raiders brought back a handful of exclusive rights free agents.

According to the Raiders PR team, they have retained five Exclusive Rights Free Agents in defensive tackle Matthew Butler, linebacker Kana'i Mauga, offensive guard Jordan Meredith, defensive end Charles Snowden, and cornerback Sam Webb.

These are all guys who will be depth pieces and role players, or even guys who could spend some time on the practice squad. And, believe it or not, that's important. And, retaining some of these guys is important. You need to have some continuity, even if the roster before was pretty bad.
