Love Is Blind Fans Say Season 8 Made Them 'Truly Sorry For Women'

Dating is never easy—especially not on a national TV show! This is a lesson frequently learned by the cast members of the hit series Love Is Blind.

While the reality TV show tries to create an authentic blind dating experiment, some fans felt Season 8 fell short. In particular, many pointed out that the men cast on the show lacked basic emotional maturity, making it difficult to watch.

Fans Felt Season 8's Men Lacked Empathy

On a Reddit thread discussing Love Is Blind, many fans chimed in on a thread called "After watching Love Is Blind Season 8, I truly feel sorry for women." The thread discussed that, while a reality TV show is never a completely authentic portrayal of real life, they were shocked at how little empathy the men from the most recent season possessed.

One poster pointed out that this could very well stem from a content issue, as content geared towards women often involved stories of empathy, while content geared towards men is "the opposite," where, if anything, women are treated as "just objects." The writer cited an example from when she and her husband were watching another Netflix show, Nobody Wants This, where her husband was surprised to see a male character talking about feelings:

I’m watching Nobody Wants This with my husband and in a recent episode the male main character asked his gf if she’s ok because she looked a little spaced out. My husband remarked that he thought the guy had some sort of superhuman empathy. I was really taken aback because the entire interaction felt very normal to me.

The poster went on to explain that programming like Love Is Blind could benefit heterosexual men, as it would teach them to have more honest and vulnerable conversations. "I think men should be watching more shows like this. You really learn a lot," she wrote. "And even as a woman, I learn a lot too about human interaction and modern dating. There should also just be more media targeted toward men that show empathy and healthy male interactions."

Other Fans Called The Season 'Boring'

Perhaps because of the lack of deep emotional connection between the male and female cast members, others wrote the latest season off as "boring." Even when things did seem to be going well for a couple, it didn't feel like there was much for the episodes to follow one way or the other.

One commenter on the thread expressed their desire to forget about Season 8 and move on with Season 9:

I just want to say season 8 is so d*** boring! 😲 I can't get into any of the contestants and they all seem fake! I think the reunion was the best part of this season that I didn't fast forward. On to the next season!

Another poster jumped in to agree with the comment, saying that they, too, felt that Season 8 was "one of the worst seasons" of the franchise. Though it's unclear if another season of the show will automatically fix what fans are pointing out is an "empathy gap" between men and women, the show is continuing on for another season, with filming already underway.

Love is blind Screen

Indeed, fans of the show will be pleased to know that the next season of Love Is Blind has already been announced. The dating experiment is staying in the Midwest, this time targeting Denver for Season 9 of the pods. Beyond that, the international spin-offs of the franchise also continue, with additional seasons having been filmed in countries like Japan, Argentina, the UK, Sweden, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, and more.
