Love Is Blind is listening to what the fans had to say about season 8 and their overall disappointment.

“I would be remiss not to,” executive producer Ally Simpson said of listening to the criticism of the most recent season in an interview with Rolling Stone published on Monday, March 10. ‘I take it all with a grain of salt, and I think you can tell the people who are being cruel just to be cruel, but we strive to become better and better storytellers because we want to do justice to the journeys that each of these people went on.”

Fans of the Netflix dating show voiced their discontent all season long, with many taking to social media to express their disappointment in the season’s lack of drama and unexciting cast. Only one couple — Taylor and Daniel — said “I do” after walking down the aisle.

In addition to watching just one couple prove love is blind this season, many fans were equally underwhelmed by the reunion — which is typically a spitfire. Simpson noted that when the team goes into the reunion, they like to give the contestants a chance to defend themselves.

“It does feel like our responsibility to see if things feel accurate and if we did them justice,” she told the outlet. “Sometimes the reunion is our chance to address if someone is being unfairly attacked. We really want them all to leave the reunion feeling like they got a chance to either set the record straight, defend their character, or have the opportunity to say their final piece about something.”

Simpson also acknowledged the fans’ complaints of Love Is Blind spending too much time with the couples in the pods.

Love Is Blind Producer Addresses Fans Criticism for Season 8:

“We heard feedback this season that the show spent a lot of time in the pods and we’re thinking about that as we move forward,” she explained. “We do pay attention, but I think we know how to filter the useful from mean-spirited comments.”

While addressing the criticism, Simpson also shared the challenges the Love Is Blind team faces behind the scenes as the show has evolved since its 2020 premiere.

“We think it is such a cool experience and experiment for people to do, and we want to bring on really quality individuals. We want people to want to do it because we’ve seen it work,” she said. “I think the social media aspect does sometimes scare away people who are thoughtful about that. Having couples like [season 7’s] Garrett Josemans and Taylor Krause and having couples like Daniel and Taylor who are hard-working people with great jobs, who are kind people, and people who come from nice families, go out into the world and say, ‘It works’ shows there are nice people and it’s a nice experience.”

Simpson added it’s the show’s ultimate goal to “attract” more individuals who are serious about falling in love and settling down.

“If you look at the husbands who come from the show, it’s the really nice guys who it works out for. We just need nice men,” she explained. “Sometimes I feel like social media is scaring some nice guys off, so we’ve enlisted the help of some former participants who are big fans and they’ll sometimes get on [the phone] with people before they come [on the show] and answer questions about what’s it’s really like and they’ll put them at ease.”
