Not everything is smooth sailing in the world of Love Is Blind. The reality TV dating series just brought its eighth season to a close, but some of the cast members are voicing their complaints.
Virginia Called Out The Show's Casting For Being 'Unfortunate'
During the Season 8 reunion, Virigina got a chance to share her candid thoughts on the makeup of her season's cast members. As reported by Yahoo, she was asked by another Love Is Blind alum, AD Smith from Season 6, what she thought about the participants of her season being "so white."
In her response, Virginia noted that it was especially disappointing because her hometown was very naturally diverse, and that it wasn't reflected in who was chosen for the show:
It was really unfortunate. We have the highest Somali demographic and the highest Hmong demographic…It’s pretty diverse.
Another Black Cast Member Previously Voiced A Similar Complaint
This isn't the first time the Love Is Blind franchise has come under fire for something similar. Lauren Speed-Hamilton, a breakout star from Season 1 who is still married to her husband Cameron, previously shared a Tweet about how disappointing it was to see that Black women would be featured in the trailer of a season but then largely cut from episodes.
Lauren shared her candid thoughts on the matter, ending her message with the side-eye emoji:
I don't like how LIB be cutting all the black women. How come they are always in the trailer but not the show...👀
In response to Lauren's tweet, host Nick Lachey also admitted that it was "a fair observation," but he, too, went on to claim that the show's process in figuring out who to feature was "not manipulated."
As for Virginia, it seems she's putting her experience in the pods behind her. At the end of the season, she ended up breaking things off with Devin at the altar, citing that she felt there were some major differences in their core beliefs and values that would make it difficult to move forward with a committed relationship. Though she didn't get into the details during the reunion itself, she did hint that Devin may have had more conservative beliefs due to his faith, and that he may not have been as accepting of folks from the LGBTQ+ community as she wanted her future partner to be.
Later, at the reunion, she brought up some other questionable behavior of Devin's, including the fact that he spent the day before their wedding hanging out with his ex-girlfriend, and that he apparently pocketed money that was a gift to cover the expenses of their wedding. Devin denied both of these claims.
