Love Is Blind Season 8 Star Ben Mezzenga’s TikTok Drama Explained

Love Is Blind Season 8 has been an eventful season so far, with five couples getting engaged in the pods. One of these couples is Ben Mezzenga and Sara Carton. While Ben and Sara had a strong initial connection, it wasn’t without its difficulties. Things became even more complicated when the couple received their phones back. Sara saw a TikTok video calling out a man on the season, who was later revealed to be Ben.

While Season 8 hasn’t revealed too many details of the TikTok drama, we have everything you need to know. Here’s a full breakdown of the Ben TikTok controversy as well as a deep dive into his relationship with Sara.

Ben Mezzenga and Sara Carton discovered they had differences in the pods

While it’s normal to run into roadblocks in the pods, Ben and Sara realized big differences early on. Sara brought up politics during one of their early conversations and explained that social equality was extremely important to her. Ben listened to Sara but wasn’t the most receptive to the conversation. When Sara asked him his opinion on Black Lives Matter, he admitted that he didn’t really have a stance. This rubbed Sara the wrong way, as she felt that she shouldn’t have to teach a man about basic human rights.

During another conversation, Ben and Sara discussed religion. Sara opened up about not being super religious due to the church’s controversial opinions regarding the LGBTQ+ community. This was extremely important to Sara, as her sister is a lesbian and she only wants to be involved with organizations that will treat her as an equal. Again, Ben was present for the conversation but didn’t add much substance. Despite their differences in their political and religious views, Ben and Sara ended up getting engaged.

After getting back to Minneapolis, a mysterious TikTok raised concerns about Ben

Love Is Blind

One night while hanging out in their shared apartment, Sara received a shocking message. In a group chat of all the Love Is Blind Season 8 women, Sara was surprised to see surprising news about her fiancé. The message contained a TikTok by a woman who claimed that one of the men on the current season of Love Is Blind had treated her poorly. The main message of the video was criticizing the Netflix series for “celebrating sh*tty men”. After showing the video to Ben, Sara was shocked to hear Ben reveal that it was probably about him.

Ben claimed that he had met the woman in the video about four years ago and they had a brief fling. He remembered going on one date with her and meeting up at bars for a few weekends. After that, he didn’t remember much about their relationship or why he eventually ghosted her. While Sara seemed to understand Ben’s side of the story, the TikTok definitely raised red flags for her. She let Ben know her concerns but ultimately admitted that she wanted to protect him from any biased controversy.

There’s a lot more to the story than what was shown

While Love Is Blind Season 8, showed a snippet of the TikTok drama, there’s a lot more to the story. In a recent interview, Sara revealed that she saw a TikTok about Ben when she went to the brewery with him to meet his friends. She went outside to take a look and asked Ben about it shortly after. However, production stopped the conversation so that they could have it later on camera.

Sara admitted that while the TikToks were concerning, she wasn’t sure how much they were really accusing Ben of. It was clear that the creator of the videos was angry at Netflix for casting Ben, as they believed he had treated women badly in the past. While Sara didn’t necessarily feel unsafe, the videos did cause her to question things. This left her unsure of how seriously to take the news. It’s unclear if this affected Sara’s decision at the altar, but for the time being she seems to not be too bothered by it.

Love Is Blind is currently available to stream on Netflix.
