On the Season 9 premiere of Southern Charm, Madison explained that Brett often travels to California for his job as a chief firefighter. “He’s gone for about three days,” she said. “Home for eight.”

Although Brett goes back and forth, Madison wants to make something known about the couple’s living situation.

“Let me just jump on here and clarify this,” Madison said during an Amazon Live on September 14, the same day the Southern Charm premiere aired. “So, my husband and I — I don’t know how this got twisted — we’re not long-distance, OK? He literally just travels for work.”

“So this is his home,” she continued. “This is where we live. This is our full-time residence. He just goes to work just like everybody [else’s] husband that works out of town, and then he comes right home.”

Madison went on to explain that “as far as managing it,” there’s no issue. “Honestly, when he’s gone, I’m still working and, you know, we just can’t wait to see each other as soon as he gets back, so there’s really nothing to manage,” she said.

On Season 9 Episode 10 of Southern Charm, which aired on November 16, Madison explained more about why the occasional distance doesn't bother her. "Honestly, with Hudson, I have joint custody with him. If I can be separated from my child for a short period of time, then I can be separated from my husband," she told Venita Aspen. "But that could change because we're talking about, like, having a baby."

On Part 1 of Southern Charm's Season 9 reunion, which aired on January 11, host Andy Cohen had some questions about the arrangement. "How does your marriage work exactly?" he asked, to which Madison responded, "So, pretty much, [Brett is] gone for about three to four days and then he's home the rest."

"I don't think that anyone could put up with me 24/7," she quipped. "But he says he can."

Madison went on to explain how their living situation has also made the transition easier for her son, Hudson. "Honestly, another reason why the long distance works is because Hudson still has me all to himself certain days," she said.

Last year, Madison, Brett, and Madison’s son, Hudson, moved into their gorgeous new house. “I literally am living in Pleasantville, like in the best way possible. Everyone is just so welcoming. I’ve never been this happy in my life,” Madison shared with BravoTV.com in April 2022. “I could cry every day because it’s just bliss.”

“I think this is where I want to raise my future children, and I want Hudson to be here. He likes it so much,” she added. “I for sure see us here for at least the next 10 years or longer.”

Craig Conover and Paige DeSorbo’s Living Situation Update

Although Madison clarified that she and Brett are not doing long-distance, Craig Conover and Paige DeSorbo are — and Craig has strong feelings on the subject.

As you can see in the video above, during the Season 9 premiere, Craig told Paige, who is based in New York City, “Obviously, I figured out a way to work from New York, which was good. And that’s kind of what I want to see from you down here.”

“We’ve never really spent that much time apart. We’ve always been like four or five days at the most,” he noted. “So being away from each other for like three days now feels like a lot.”

Although Paige agreed with that, she explained, “You can’t just plan, like, ‘OK, and now you’ll be in Charleston forever.’”

In an interview during the episode, Craig admitted, “Paige and I are in a tough spot. We’ve been dating for over a year, we’re kind of in the same spot. So it’s getting a little frustrating.”
