Long time Rangers veteran forward Mika Zibanejad spoke to the media about the Ryan Lindgren trade today.
The New York Rangers have had a very unusual season this year, especially with regards to their trade activity.
Yesterday, the team made another move, sending defenseman Ryan Lindgren to the Colorado Avalanche.
This is just the latest in a series of odd moves from the team. In December, they Moved Kaapo Kakko to the Seattle kraken in a deal that had many fans scratching their heads.
Less surprisingly, the team then reacquired JT Miller in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks
All of these moves have added up to a team that is mediocre at best, and is still fighting for a playoff spot. Currently, they sit four points back of the playoff line.
Perhaps more importantly though, these trades have had a heavy impact on the team.
Obviously, it is not easy seeing your friends and teammates cast aside as the season continues to go in a direction many Rangers players were not expecting.
This was made especially evident today when lifelong Ranger Mika Zibanejad revealed how he felt about the team trading Ryan Lindgren.
'The way he played, the way he was on the ice, I think it's very apparent for everyone and very obvious what he did for us. And when you have someone who does all the things that he did for us - the way he played through injury, the way he just battled every game. You talk about giving 100% every night, that was Lindy. And then off the ice, one of the nicest human beings I've ever met. It's tough.'
Zibanejad has played in 907 career regular season games and 74 playoff games, all with the New York Rangers.
He is one of the more respected leaders in the locker room and has been a fan favorite for years.
When he is upset by moves the team is making, it is a sign that things are falling apart for the organization.
Hopefully the team will be able to turn it around quickly, but so far they have not proven to be capable of doing so this season.
