On August 1, 1987, Mike Tyson became the undisputed heavyweight world champion, by defeating Tony Tucker inside the Las Vegas Hilton in Paradise, Nevada, USA.
While ‘Iron Mike’ eventually found his groove, winning via unanimous decision, he had to overcome serious adversity when a bomb detonated on his chin in the opening round and nearly took him off his feet.
In his post-fight interview, Tyson explained: “He was a very hard puncher.
“I made a bad mistake, I came up right in the middle after I went down instead of going to the side. He threw a punch, I was careless and got hit.”
