‘Iron’ Mike Tyson made a controversial return to the ring at 58-years-old last November.
The 58-year-old former undisputed heavyweight champion clashed with Youtuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Texas on November 15, putting an end to almost two decades of inactivity.
Tyson was a shadow of his once ferocious self on the night as he struggled to match the tempo set by Paul who was over 30-years his junior. ‘Iron Mike’ was beaten via unanimous decision before going on to announce his final retirement from boxing shortly after.
Paul is now gearing up to face former WBC world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, who he locks horns with in a cruiserweight showdown at the Honda Center in Anaheim on Saturday June 28.
Whilst speaking in the pre-fight press conference ahead of his bout against Paul, Tyson gave an honest answer when he was asked if he believes ‘The Problem Child’ can go on to win a world title in the near future, as he admits the 28-year-old has ‘improved a lot’.
“Let me just be honest, he’s improved a lot. Yes. He has improved a lot.”
Paul could move a step closer to capturing world honours should he be victorious over Chavez later this month, but he is expected to win in impressive fashion against the 39-year-old Mexican who has had an underwhelming professional career since he reigned as the WBC middleweight champion between 2011 and 2012.
As for Tyson, the 58-year-old has now announced what boxing fans hope to be his final retirement from boxing, after he initially claimed he would continue fighting following his controversial showdown with ‘The Problem Child’.
