Mike Tyson Didn’t Hesitate When Asked If Gervonta Davis Should Have Lost To Lamont Roach

Mike Tyson has weighed in on the controversial draw between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach Jr.

Davis put his WBA Lightweight World Title on the line as a heavy favourite against Roach, who was moving up from super-featherweight for the challenge.

The fight was much more competitive than most expected, with Roach willing to trade with the notorious knockout artist and often coming out of exchanges better off.

In the ninth round, ‘Tank’ took a knee and retreated to his corner for his face to be wiped – later revealing grease from a recent hair appointment had gotten into his eyes – but was not given a count by referee Steve Willis. The

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, ‘Iron’ Mike didn’t hesitate when asked if Willis made the wrong call.

“Yeah, the point should’ve been taken away. Regardless about what was in his eyes, he took the knee, he should’ve got the point taken away. Whatever the rules called for.”

Had it been called a 10-8 round in favour of Roach, and all scores remained the same for the other rounds, the challenger would have won a unanimous decision and ‘Tank’s WBA belt.

Though Roach did not get that outcome and saw his appeal to the New York State Athletic Commission rejected, all signs point to an immediate rematch for him to get a second crack at the big puncher from Baltimore, ‘Tank’ Davis. Reports suggest PBC are targetting a date in late June for the pair to run it back.
