Mike Tyson names ‘scariest’ boxer ever

Mike Tyson recently sat down for a chat with NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal.

During their conversation, Tyson made a spot-on prediction for Dustin Poirier vs. Max Holloway 3.

The 58-year-old also revealed who he thinks is the ‘scariest’ fighter of all time after being given the label through the years.

“Listen, Sonny Liston is the scariest fighter that ever lived,” Tyson insisted.

“Sonny Liston would come to a town, say he’s in St. Louis, and he comes to Chicago, the cops would be [like] ‘Listen, you can’t come’.

He knocked out around four cops, broke their jaw, took their gun, they were beating him with the night stick over his head…

“There’s no fighter like Sonny Liston. Sonny Liston’s a monster.”

Who is Sonny Liston?

Liston came from a rough background and learned how to box in prison before turning pro in 1953.

‘The Big Bear’ became known as a vicious knockout artist as he racked up a 35-1 record, which included back-to-back first-round stoppage wins over heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson.

Liston’s reign was ended by Muhammad Ali, who was known as Cassius Clay before their first fight in February 1964.

A shoulder injury prompted Liston to retire after six rounds and set up a May 1965 rematch.

Ali famously flattened Liston in one round to end their rivalry and create one of the most iconic boxing images of all time.

Liston won 15 of his next 16 fights, but failed to become champion again before his untimely death in December 1970.
