The upcoming Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight continues to divide opinion within boxing, and now ‘Iron Mike’ has fired back at a former heavyweight world champion for criticising the contest.
Tyson goes up against Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Friday 15 November, in what will be the first boxing event streamed live on Netflix.
The bout was originally scheduled to take place on July 20, but was postponed after Tyson suffered an ulcer flare, further adding to the concern that has surrounded the match-up since it was first announced.
Deontay Wilder is one of the men who has spoken out on the fight, claiming that it shouldn’t be licensed by a commission and showed genuine concern for the health of the 58-year-old.
‘Iron Mike’ was far from impressed by the comments made by the former WBC heavyweight champion, telling Esquire that Wilder shouldn’t worry about him.
“Then let Mike get hurt. You don’t have to worry about paying my bills. Everyone says this makes no sense, but he’s how old?
“He’s not who I am. He can’t go to Mongolia and have somebody know who the f*** he is.”
It isn’t the first time that Wilder and Tyson have had a public spat, with ‘The Bronze Bomber’ previously claiming that he would have defeated Tyson if the two fighters had met in their prime.
Irrespective of Wilder’s thoughts on the fight, the bout is still set to go ahead, although one of Paul’s long-time rivals believes the contest will soon be cancelled.
