Tyson burst onto the scene as a teenage sensation, winning his first 19 professional fights by knockout, 12 of them inside the very first round.
He went on to win the WBC heavyweight title at the age of just 20 years, 4 months and 22 days, and to this day he remains the youngest world heavyweight champion in history.
Tyson became undisputed after wins over the likes of Larry Holmes and Michael Spinks, with his ferocious and relentless style one of the reasons why many fans hold ‘Iron Mike’ in such high regard.
When it comes to Tyson naming who he believes to be the greatest ever though, there were two fighters that came to mind, but ultimately he told Complex that one man just edges it.
“I love Roberto Duran and Muhammad Ali. Ali is the greatest fighter that ever lived, I have to go with him, yeah.”
Muhammad Ali‘s moniker of ‘The Greatest’ came after an illustrious career that saw him become world heavyweight champion on multiple occasions.
He was involved in some of the most memorable fights of all time, including ‘The Rumble In The Jungle’ with George Foreman and the ‘Thrilla In Manila’ with Joe Frazier.
As for Roberto Duran, his career was just as impressive, becoming a four-weight world champion and the second boxer after Jack Johnson to have competed in five separate decades.
While Duran is also loved by many fans, it is clear to see just why Tyson opted for Ali as the greatest ever fighter.
