Mike Tyson Names The Only Man Who Can Beat Canelo At 168 And It’s Not Terence Crawford

Mike Tyson Didn't Hesitate When Asked If Canelo Alvarez Would Beat David Benavidez - Seconds Out

Heavyweight icon Mike Tyson has named the one man who he believes can defeat Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez at super middleweight.

It was revealed earlier this year that Canelo will be facing fellow pound-for-pound star Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford in a mega-fight in September, but must first come through a bout against reigning IBF super middleweight champion William Scull on May 3, as he bids to become a two-time undisputed champion at 168lbs.

As the boxing world awaits the huge showdown between Canelo and ‘Bud’, heavyweight legend ‘Iron’ Mike spoke to the It Is What It Is podcast to sum up Crawford’s chances of defying the odds and defeating the Mexican star in September.

“Too much weight. I don’t like that fight. You know he had a close fight with the last guy he fought [Madrimov], because this guy was big and he was awkward, he shouldn’t have fought that guy.”

Tyson went on to reveal in a separate interview that he believes the one fighter that can prevail in a showdown with Canelo at 168lbs is none other than David Benavidez, who has been calling for a showdown with the 34-year-old for a number of years.

“[Benavidez] is so underrated but so over-polarised here. Listen, I’d be afraid to fight him too if I was in that division. No one even has a chance against him, and I’m talking facts.”

‘The Monster’ recently made the move up to 175lbs, where he holds the WBC ‘Interim’ world title. The 28-year-old from Phoenix was the mandatory challenger to Canelo’s WBC super middleweight title but opted for a move to light heavyweight after he could not secure a showdown with the reigning champion.

Benavidez reportedly remains keen on facing Canelo in the near future, but it remains to be seen whether he will drop back down to 168lbs to allow this to happen.
