Tyson fought 13 times during the year, recording an incredible 15 KOs in a sensational annum of both activity and ruthless power.

Just five days before the end of that year, he looked to take another dominant step closer to challenging for titles, as he took on aggressive boxer Young in New York.

'Iron Mike' had barely been touched in his seemingly invincible start to life as a pro, and his fearsome aura continued in quite incredible style.

Young was selected as an opponent given he had shown during his career that he was willing to go toe-to-toe with anyone, and not take a backwards step from an exchange.

And he did exactly that with an air of surprising confidence, but the formidable Tyson was having none of that.

The packed arena roared as the teenage sensation, who had generated quite the reputation, was met in the centre of the ring at the opening bell.

Young bounced up and down on his toes before charging towards Tyson and setting out pace with the snapping jab.

He let his hands go early on and did catch Tyson with a few aggressive early shots.

At one point Young was so aggressive, he was forced to bounce back off the ropes, and upon returning to stability he adopted to do a small dance.

The crowd appreciated his extravagance, but his flamboyant approach didn't see him sit on his laurels as he continued his assault.

But Tyson walked through the attempted output and looked the more composed with less than a minute gone.

And after the confident dancing, Tyson made him pay in an incredible breakthrough with just seconds gone in the opener.

He unleashed a crunching right uppercut which glanced the temple of Young, who felt it immediately.

The challenger collapsed into the ropes before landing facedown on the canvas motionless.

It was a concerning fall and the referee waved off the contest, with Young's assured approach paying no dividends.

He received medical treatment but was conscious while he received treatment after the devastating blow.

Tyson had another flattened rival on his record, and there was no sign that any approach would be enough to halt his powerful train of domination.

Ultimately his relentless KO streak continued into 1986, the year he was crowned the youngest ever heavyweight world champion with a victory over Trevor Berbick.

He was eventually beaten in a stunning upset against James 'Buster' Douglas in 1990.

But his legacy went on in the division, as he fought a line-up of leading names including Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis.

He is widely known as one of the greatest heavyweights of all-time, and his fan-friendly all-action style has rarely been seen to this level in the squared circle since.

Tyson remains relevant in the modern boxing world having recently returned in a staggering comeback fight aged 58 against Jake Paul, which he lost.

But the event saw him generate a huge $20million payday, putting behind him fears over financial security after losing the majority of his boxing earnings.

He has always looked to defy odds and go against the conventional grain in the ring, a unique trademark of his frightening career.

Tyson's prime years remain in the record books for good, and Young was just one of many opposition who tried and failed to halt his ascendancy.
