It wasn't for lack of trying that Mike Tyson lost to Jake Paul in a highly-anticipated bout at AT&T Stadium last month. After suffering a medical emergency in May that required eight blood transfusions, Tyson emerged from death's doorstep in fighting shape after completing a rigorous pre-fight training regimen.
Unfortunately for Iron Mike, the 58-year-old was well past his prime. Tyson's first professional fight in 19 years ended in a unanimous victory for the 27-year-old Paul, who has used the victory as a springboard to challenge all comers. What Tyson has been up to over the past month has received comparatively little press.
Amir Tyson talks about his dad's mental state
Mike Tyson's son Amir has offered insight into the former heavyweight champion's state of mind following the humbling defeat to Paul in Arlington last month -- and to put it succinctly, Mike seems okay.
"He's just been in his zone, staying to himself," Amir told the boxing-centric YouTube channel ESNews. "He's real good, he's not handling it bad. He knocked out Netflix and it was all because of him pretty much."
Tyson reportedly received $20 million for fighting Paul, who got double that amount following his victory. The fight "launched" Tyson's next phase with Netflix; the streaming giant just commissioned a three-part docuseries that will chronicle Tyson's meteoric rise to fame in the 1980s and his dramatic fall from grace in the 1990s.
In short, Mike has moved on -- and Amir put a positive spin on the Paul fight, which saw his father tire quickly after a bright start in front of 70,000 fans in Texas.
"It was just a historic night, I'm glad everyone involved got paid, you know what I mean? It was a good night," Amir said.
