Tyson vs. Paul fight leaves spectators disappointed | | komu.com

‘Iron’ Mike will go down as one of the most formidable heavyweights of all time. He won the WBC title at just 20 years old when he defeated Trevor Berbick by knockout in the second round to become the youngest heavyweight champion ever – a record that still stands to this day.

In his retirement, Tyson has kept a keen eye on the sport and is especially impressed with one current fighter.

The 59-year-old has made it no secret that his favourite boxer is the former two-time super-middleweight champion David Benavidez, even giving him his nickname ‘The Mexican Monster’.

Benavidez had long chased a showdown with current unified 168lb champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, but, even though he was mandatory challenger for over a year, the clash never materialised.

Having grown frustrated at waiting for his shot at Alvarez, the 28-year-old has moved up to light-heavyweight and impressive wins against Oleksandr Gvozdyk and David Morrell have made him the WBC and WBA mandatory challenger to undisputed champion Dmitry Bivol.

When asked by ESNews how Benavidez fares against the best, Tyson is backing him to come out on top against all challengers.

“I like him against everybody.”

Tyson heaped further praise on the undefeated fighter, claiming even he would be scared to face him back when he was active.

“He’s so underrated but so over-polarised here. Listen, I’d be afraid to fight him too if I was in that division. No one even has a chance against him, and I’m talking facts.”

It was reported that Benavidez was in advanced talks to make the Bivol fight happen, however news from the teams is that there has not been talks.

If Bivol decides on a trilogy bout with Artur Beterbiev, Benavidez may look to continue his fine run of form against the UK’s Callum Smith.
