Mike Tyson, once hailed as the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ and a legend himself, built a reputation of being a fearsome fighter, claiming dominance in the ring but, however, is said to have his limits when facing a certain opponent, a startling claim made by Tyson’s former associate. According to the insider, the former heavyweight champion rejected a match fix-up against a legendary heavyweight champion.
had bulldozed his way into most of his competitions facing some of the biggest names in the sport, cementing his legacy and name as one of the most fearless fighters of all time.
Who was Mike Tyson Afraid of?
Despite being a feared fighter himself, with many shrinking away at the thought of facing him, the former champion, Mike Tyson, was a formidable fighter, scared of no one and reigning as the undisputed heavyweight champion during his peak. But in a surprising claim made by
Bobby Goodman
, the undisputed champion was completely against facing the iconic and legendary, two-time heavyweight champion,
George Foreman
.
Goodman says in an article by
Boxing Scene
that came out in 2005, “Georgie, you’ll never believe this but f****** Tyson is scared sh**less of Foreman and wants no part of him.”
Goodman adds, “I was there when Don [King] was trying to make the fight. He was telling Tyson that Foreman represented huge money, plus he was old and slow and would be no problem. Tyson got up and screamed at King saying, ‘I’m not fighting that f****** animal, if you love the m*********** so much, you fight him!’”
George Foreman, ‘Big George’ is a former professional boxer, two-time heavyweight champion and a 1986 Olympic gold medalist in the heavyweight division. During Tyson’s peak, Foreman was on a hiatus and the much anticipated fight between them had never come to fruition leading to Tyson’s arrest on charges of rape and a sentence of six years in prison.
The Olympic gold medalist also had no intention of facing Iron Mike saying that it would be a nightmare.
“That guy was a nightmare in the ring. I didn’t want anything to do with that guy. I didn’t want a part of Mike Tyson. He was a monster. If he missed you with his left, then missed you with his right, he’d bite you. Those are the kind of guys you see in a nightmare. You want to wake up and say, ‘so glad that’s a dream.’”
