Mike Tyson splashed out $2.3 million on solid gold present for ex-wife in one of most expensive buys ever

Mike Tyson once bought a lavish $2.5 million bath tub as a present to ex-wife Robin Givens, but was forced to sell it years later.

The legendary heavyweight generated a fortune from his historic professional career, banking an estimated $430 million in total revenue from his days in the ring.

Tyson headlined some of the biggest earning nights in the sport's history, including huge showdowns with Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield.

During his heyday, 'Iron Mike' was able to live a luxury lifestyle from living in huge mansions, to owning a supercar collection and possessing many more extravagant luxury items.

But in one of his most expensive single item purchases ever, the former undisputed champion decided to go big.

Tyson was married to American actress Givens in 1988 for just one year in a relationship which was extremely high-profile but ended promptly just the year afterwards.

But multiple reports indicate that the legendary heavyweight purchased Givens a 24-carat gold bath tub as a gift during their marriage.

The tub was worth $2.5 million and was one of his many purchases during his professional boxing career.

After the pair separated the following year, it is believed Tyson looked to recoup the money for his spending.

And it is claimed by billionaire Derwood Hodgegrass, that he was able to acquire the item for around half the price at a value of $1.2 million

He said during an interview: "I picked it up at nearly half the cost, and gold is more valuable today.

"Oh, it’s just a lark. Aside from perhaps the death tubs of Marat and Jim Morrison, I’d venture to say few bathtubs have this kind of provenance."

Unfortunately it was purchases such as this that quickly drained the fortune of the iconic fighter.

Tyson had financial issues stemming from his fights and eventually filed for bankruptcy at the back end of his career in 2003.

He was allegedly $23 million in debt, and had completely lost his huge fortune that he generated at the peak of his powers.

The fan-favourite has since recalled exactly how his fortune disappeared having since recovered to live a comfortable life.

He said: "At the beginning, I didn't handle fame too well. You know because at first you want the fame of being a champion, but you have no control then.

"And that's when I first started getting in trouble because sometimes I might be walking the streets, they don't know my mother died or something about my family.

"I might not be in the mood, so I used to be violent about it. And then, I started getting quite a few lawsuits and I stopped.

"I'm a glutton for pain, but I stopped. I couldn't sign anymore checks so. I was always being sued.

"Constantly blew my money away from being sued and going to court and just associating with the wrong people and making bad business decisions."

The veteran has since made financial stability, having used his stardom in the sport to continue to make a living.

Tyson retired in 2005, but decided to return 15-years later in a money-spinning exhibition with Roy Jones Jr.

And in sensational fashion, he made a full professional return in November 2024 losing to YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.
