Minnesota Vikings invite uber talented cornerback to rookie minicamp the NFL will regret passing on

After the NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings had a great haul of undrafted free agents. In totality, they brought in 20 undrafted free agents with one that stands out above the rest for multiple reasons.

The pool of rookie free agents are one that general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has thrived with over the last few years. He has kept eight players over those three years on the initial 53-man roster. That's a really good track record, especially since all of those were on the defensive side of the football.

Vikings invite intriguing prospect to rookie minicamp

One player that wasn't included in the rookie class ended up getting a rookie minicamp invite: Nebraska CB Tommi Hill. The invite was announced on the Nebraska football team's Instagram page.

Considering the Vikings didn't select a single member of the secondary during the three days of the NFL Draft, taking as many shots as they can with UDFAs is a smart move.

Hill arguably should have been drafted early on day three, but fell likely due to the season-ending foot injury. His scouting report from Kyle Crabbs of The 33rd Team paint a really interesting picture.

Hill is a fascinating prospect who offers good functional athleticism, elite length, high-end ball skills, thanks to his background at wide receiver, and physical play demeanor in coverage. He’s understandably raw after pinballing back and forth between offense and defense during his college career, and he enters the NFL with less than 1,200 snaps of defensive football to his game.

The two-way background sets the table for an instinctive player who has a firm feel of routes. Hill has been at his best playing leveraged overtop of routes and feeling the stem develop before anticipating the break. He put up big numbers and production in this regard in 2023 during his breakout campaign

Former wide receivers transitioning over to cornerback is relatively common in college, and it gives them an inherent advantage when it comes to pattern matching. Pair that with plus ball skills, and it's a fascinating profile.

Will Hill end up getting an invite to training camp and the 90-man roster? We will find out in time, but a good performance will go a long way.
