Creed star Sylvester Stallone paid his respects to who he calls “the real Apollo Creed,” a.k.a. Muhammad Ali, in a series of Instagram posts Sunday.
“Fantastic man who I came to know well,” he wrote. “He was the real Apollo Creed!” Among the batch of photos was a snapshot of their “first meeting where [The Champ] gave [him] a slight tap in the stomach.”
Stallone also posted video from the 1977 Oscars where he and Ali joked around before presenting Best Supporting Actress to Network‘s Beatrice Straight.
“I just gotta say one thing,” Stallone said at the time. “I may not win anything here tonight in the form of an Oscar, but I really feel it’s an amazing privilege to be standing next to a 100 percent certified legend, and it’s something I’m gonna treasure for the rest of my life.”
