The most notable member of the Ali family who has gone on to have a successful career is Laila Ali, Muhammad Ali’s daughter.
Laila Ali finished her career with a 13-fight knockout streak as she hung up her gloves with a 24-0 record. ‘She Bee Stingin’ could not be bested across her eight year career, as she was a super middleweight champion.
Retiring in 2007, Laila Ali hung up her gloves as a champion. However, in 2025, she is being targeted by one of the greatest women fighters of all time.
Claressa Shields aiming to lure Laila Ali out of retirement with $15 million offer
Considered to be one of the greatest women’s fighters of all time, Claressa Shields currently reigns atop the heavyweight division.
With a 16-0 record, no one has been able to cause Shields any significant problems in her professional career. Given this, she is seeking a fellow former champion.
After Laila Ali said she would return to fight Shields for a figure of $15-$20 million, the heavyweight champion seemingly complied.
In footage posted by FightHype.com, Shields said, “Laila, I’ve got great news for you. We’ve got the $15 million. Let’s make a fight, me versus you, the best versus the best.”
A check for $15 million is then unveiled with Laila Ali’s name on it. However, the daughter of one of the greatest heavyweights of all time has not yet responded.
Muhammad Ali’s grandson Nico reacts to Claressa Shields’ offer to Laila Ali
Although Laila Ali has not responded to Shields, her nephew, Nico Ali Walsh, has given his thoughts on the situation.
His initial response when asked about his opinion was, “I don’t think the fight is going to happen.”
Ali Walsh added, “I know Laila is significantly older than Claressa. If the fight did happen, I think it would be amazing for women’s boxing. That would be a fun fight to see.”
Shields is currently 30 years of age, while Laila Ali is 47 years of age.
When asked if his aunt was in training or not, Ali Walsh said he was unsure. However, the 25-year-old feels they would make history if they stepped in the ring with one another. “It would shatter some records, for sure.”
