Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has made it known how much he loves selecting players from the SEC, specifically, Alabama and Georgia.
CBS Sports writer Cody Benjamin named off a list of the top 10 best teammates that went to the same college and also play with each other in the NFL. At number eight, it's the six Georgia Bulldog teammates that include Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Nolan Smith Jr., Nakobe Dean, Azeez Ojulari, and Kelee Ringo.
"Say hello to half the Eagles defense! Carter may be the one, which fully overlapped with the Bulldogs in 2020, but the relentless Smith could be the next to break out off the edge of the Birds' title-winning front. Dean is coming off an injury but has been a vocal anchor for the linebacker corps. And Ojulari, the newest addition of the Georgia bunch, could be a sneaky sack artist after a mercurial start with the rival New York Giants, afforded a one-year, prove-it deal in free agency."
Next up at number two for the Eagles were Alabama Crimson Tide teammates Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith.
"Hurts finished his college career at Oklahoma, but he spent 2017-2018 alongside Smith in Tuscaloosa, helping bring the wideout up to Alabama speed when he was a true freshman. Since then, the two have been to two Super Bowls and claimed one Lombardi Trophy, bringing a rugged fortitude to the Eagles' all-star offense. Not included here is fellow Alabama productLandon Dickerson, a meaty leader for Philadelphia's vaunted O-line, who just missed playing with Hurts in college."
Roseman loves his SEC players and has not hidden it
There's no secret that Roseman loves to bring in players from Alabama and Georgia. The Bulldogs in particular as many have joked in calling the Eagles the "Philadelphia Bulldogs."
How is it broken down by how many players the Eagles have from Alabama and Georgia? It's pretty close, but there are seven former Crimson Tide and eight former Bulldogs.
Examining it deeper with conferences in the NFL Draft, Roseman has ensured he would select more SEC players than any of the other four major conferences since 2020.
Philadelphia has had great luck finding the best talent from the SEC. Hurts played in the SEC with Alabama, Carter is considered one of the best defensive tackles, and he came from Georgia, and DeVonta Smith was one of Hurts' top receivers with the Crimson Tide.
It's easy to understand why Roseman keeps going to the SEC, with Alabama and Georgia being the schools of choice. That helped the Eagles win the Super Bowl, so why change that strategy now?
