New reports suggest that Las Vegas Raiders are not thrilled with the veteran quarterback options in free agency and are more “interested” by a pair of second-tier QB prospects in April’s NFL Draft.
This will be an interesting next couple of months for the Las Vegas Raiders. After a third straight losing season, Las Vegas’ ownership decided to clean house and move on from head coach Antonio Pierce and general manager Tom Telesco after just one season.
Now, new head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek are now tasked with trying to turn the team around ASAP. If they hope to make the Raiders competitive in 2025, they need to upgrade the QB spot in a major way this offseason. Fortunately for Las Vegas, they have the money to sign a top signal caller in free agency. As well as a top 10 selection in April’s NFL Draft to use on an elite QB prospect.
However, it seems they like the options in the latter route than what is available in NFL free agency. “[Minority owner Tom] Brady and Spytek prioritized Matthew Stafford because they are not super high on Sam Darnold or the other potential free agents,” The Athletic reported after the team struck out on landing the Rams QB last week.
Las Vegas Raiders high on Alabama QB Jalen Milroe?

The outlet did mention that there are some on the Las Vegas Raiders coaching staff that still want the team to bring in a good veteran QB. But, if getting an impact signal caller in the draft is a more intriguing option, the outlet revealed the two youngsters the organization is the most high on after the NFL Combine. And it is not top prospects Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward.
“The Raiders met with both Ward and Sanders — and several other quarterbacks, including Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, Texas’ Quinn Ewers, and Mississippi’s Jaxson Dart — at the combine,” The Athletic reported. “The team put a lot of stock into those meetings.
“According to league sources, the Raiders came away particularly impressed with Milroe and Ewers when going over X’s and O’s and film, though the No. 6 pick would be too rich of a slot to take either one.”
Trading back to get more draft assets while landing a QB they like certainly would not be a bad approach for the team in April.
