New York Rangers Get Very Good News on their Search for Next Head Coach

After a disappointing year that resulted in their failure to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs only a year after winning the President's Trophy and advancing to the Eastern Conference Final, the New York Rangers terminated coach Peter Laviolette.

New York is now officially without a head coach, but that won't be the case for long. There are several candidates who are looking for work that could be considered - but one name stands out above the rest.

University of Denver head coach David Carle, who was reportedly at the top of the list of candidates being considered by the Chicago Blackhawks for their coaching vacancy, recently withdrew his name from consideration for their job.

On his most recent '32 Thoughts' podcast, NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman speculated that Rangers general manager Chris Drury would have key interest in Carle as Laviolette's replacement.

To me, the most fascinating thing is: What exactly are they (the Rangers) looking for? And the fact that [Drury] said first timer, says to me they make a call to Carle and will try to figure out what the rest of this is.

Carle already has an impressive coaching resume at just 35 years of age, having won not only a pair of NCAA Championships but a pair of Gold Medals in the IIHF World Junior Championships.

Could Carle's rejection of the Blackhawks' interest in him mean that the Rangers are now the frontrunners to land him?
