It's June, which means times are slow in the NFL.
Don't tell that to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who just extended a key defender via DeShon Elliott, but for most teams, and certainly the media, there isn't a whole lot going on.
So that may be why CBS Sports floated a trade proposal that the Steelers would be sure to jump on.
Only problem? The player involved is unlikely to see the block...
CBS Sports proposes a Cole Kmet trade for Steelers
The Bears all but proclaimed a new face of their tight end position by spending a first-round pick on Colston Loveland this year, and while Kmet still has the benefit of legitimate NFL experience, it's very possible new coach Ben Johnson will lean all the way into Loveland out of the gate. In that case, perhaps the Steelers would be interested in pairing Kmet with Pat Freiermuth, especially if the price is lower than, say, acquiring Kyle Pitts from the Atlanta Falcons. Kmet logged at least 50 catches in three straight seasons from 2021-2023.

The only, and I mean only issue with this trade proposal, is that the Chicago Bears are highly unlikely to consider such a trade given the fact that it will go against everything new HC Ben Johnson believes in...
Based on everything Johnson has said about Kmet and his role alongside Loveland, there's no reason to believe the team would even consider moving him.
The Bears aren't desperate for cap relief nor draft picks at this time and doing a move that would set the offense back just doesn't make sense. Now, in the long run, could it be possible? Yeah, potentially. But not prior to the 2025 season when Kmet's set to be a major role player offensively.

So on the surface, the idea has merit. The Steelers' tight end room is banged up right now, with Donald Parham Jr. tearing his Achilles and rookie UDFA JJ Galbreath (who was standing out) also heading to camp a little banged up.
Not to mention, we know the Steelers were shopping around for other TEs, including Kyle Pitts and Jonnu Smith.
But Kmet is not for the taking, or at least not yet.
