NFL insider reveals Browns have shown interest in trading for a Pro Bowl quarterback and it may just help them keep Myles Garrett

Addressing the quarterback position long-term is something that the Cleveland Browns have tried to do over and over again over the past couple of decades with no success.

Cleveland is once again trying to do that this offseason with Deshaun Watson likely missing all of 2025 after re-injuring the Achilles. Even if Watson was healthy, the Browns have to go out and find a different QB to start.

As expected, GM Andrew Berry is already turning over rocks looking for the right move at quarterback.

Cleveland showing interest in Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford

According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Browns are one of the teams that have shown initial interest in trading for 37-year-old QB Matthew Stafford. This may come as a bit of a surprise for the Browns because Stafford will not come cheap.

“The teams you’d suspect would have their hat in the ring have, indeed, thrown their hats in the ring. The New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Las Vegas Raiders, and others have shown interest.” — Albert Breer, Sports Illustrated

Los Angeles has given Stafford’s agents the right to talk to other teams and assess what he should be paid. Stafford could command close to $50 million on the open market undoubtedly for a couple of seasons. The former Pro Bowl QB threw for 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 16 games last season. Those numbers would have been something Cleveland dreamed of getting from their quarterbacks in 2024.

How this impacts the Myles Garrett side of things

Garrett requested a trade away from Cleveland a few weeks ago due to the fact he wanted to land with a team that has a better chance to win. Immediately, teammates came out and pointed out that the Browns needed a quarterback, and that could help change things.

Cleveland’s roster is not bad overall. Adding a legit quarterback to the team could take the Browns into a team that can compete for a playoff spot in 2025 if they address other issues. Making a splash move for a QB might just be what it takes for Garrett to feel comfortable with signing an extension.

The Browns would have to give up a high draft pick once again if they were to land someone like Stafford. We will see if the Rams actually trade their quarterback, or if the two sides can come together.
