NFL personnel make it abundantly clear where Dallas Goedert ranks among TEs

This offseason has not been the smoothest one for Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert, but there is a silver lining to it all. Goedert has been vindicated as one of the top tight ends in the NFL.

ESPN NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler continued his series on surveying NFL personnel on who they would rank in the top 10 at each position. Last year, Goedert was at seven, but this year he dipped a bit. He now ranks ninth in the NFL at tight end.

"Goedert occupies a tricky space on the list because he's a longtime top-10 resident but is, quite clearly, the fourth option in the Eagles' offense behind Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Philadelphia explored a potential trade for Goedert this offseason, only to revise his contract to one year and $10 million.

His 2024 output -- 42 catches for 496 yards and two touchdowns -- was his lowest since his rookie year in 2018. But he's still considered among the most complete tight ends in the NFL.

'He's still on the short list of tight ends that affect the game at a high level,' a high-ranking scout with an NFL team said.

Added a veteran NFL defensive coach: 'Very good player -- does everything extremely well, just not exceptional at any one thing in particular ... You don't give him as much thought as some of these other top [tight ends], but probably because you can't afford to with Saquon, A.J. and Smith in that offense.'"

Goedert still has a lot to prove in 2025

The good news is that people still recognize how good Goedert remains at age 30, but he has not been the same guy Eagles fans saw in 2021.

Each season after that, his numbers have dropped as Eagles fans saw his lowest point last year. Goedert missed seven games and had 42 receptions for 496 yards and two touchdowns, all were the lowest since his rookie season in 2018 except for touchdowns, that was the lowest of his career.

The most significant contributing factor to the drop in production has been injuries. He has missed 15 games over the last three seasons due to injuries, keeping him off the field.

This offseason has been filled with questions about his future in Philly. Luckily, a new restructured deal was made to keep him in Philadelphia in 2025 with a reduced salary of $10 million.

2025 is all about how Goedert can respond. He needs to find a way to stay healthy, but prove how he can be a top-five tight end in the NFL when healthy.

Eagles fans and the organization are pulling for him to come through, as he is an excellent asset to this offense.
