NHL Insider Offers Grim Outlook on Marco Rossi Rumors

As the Minnesota Wild prepare for the upcoming NHL season, the team is still dealing with some uncertainty around a few star players. One of them is young center Marco Rossi, who remains on the restricted free agent market after the two sides couldn't come to terms on a new deal.

NHL Insider Offers Grim Outlook on Marco Rossi Rumors

Minnesota has held a firm line with Rossi in contract talks, and this hasn't sat well with Rossi. It has led the two sides to potentially look for a resolution, potentially by trade.

NHL insiders Joe Smith and Michael Russo of The Athletic dropped a massive update on contract talks between the two sides. The two parties continue a stalemate that doesn't seem to be ending anytime soon.

"The Wild and Rossi’s camp haven’t had talks since early June, per league sources. President of hockey operations and general manager Bill Guerin has said he likes Rossi and wants to re-sign the restricted free agent. But with no offer sheets coming, at least for now, this might be a waiting game until the next pressure point in negotiations — the start of training camp in mid-September," Smith and Russo wrote.

This isn't great news for anyone, and it seems that the contract issue could linger into the new season. It has also been reported by insider Cam Robinson that the Wild are realizing that the bridge is burned and things could be a little rough with Rossi.

Rossi had a massive impact for the Wild last season, so losing his presence in the lineup would be tough. The center put up 24 goals and 36 assists for Minnesota this past season.

The center likely wants to be paid for his production, but the Wild are holding firm. With this likely heading toward training camp, it could be an unnecessary distraction for a team trying to go after a Stanley Cup title.
