Longtime New York Rangers analyst Larry Brooks has recommended that the team name JT Miller, who was brought back this year in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks, as their new captain.
The New York Rangers brought back forward JT Miller in a major trade with the Vancouver Canucks this year after it became clear he could no longer realistically play in British Columbia, and one longtime Rangers analyst believes that he should be the new captain.
The Rangers haven't had a captain since the trade of Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks following a controversial period of of trying to trade him and potentially buy out his deal.
Larry Brooks of the New York Post believes that Miller is the right fit to be named the official successor of Trouba.
Per @NYP_Brooksie, J.T. Miller should be appointed #NYR captain at the start of training camp:

The captain's sweater is not just another piece of laundry. It represents the organization's ethos. The Rangers acquired J.T. Miller to change the team culture. The 32-year-old is hard-edged and can be abrasive. That is the identity the Blueshirts should adopt.
Miller is in his 2nd tenure with the Rangers, who took him 15th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He has also played with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Canucks.
The Rangers re-acquired JT Miller from the Canucks
Following a long and public feud in the Canucks' locker room with teammate Elias Pettersson that was later confirmed by executive Jim Rutherford, the Canucks traded Miller to the Rangers.
The Canucks also traded Erik Brannstrom and Jackson Dorrington to the Rangers and received Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and a 1st round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft in return.
