Nico Ali Walsh, the grandson of Muhammad Ali, has turned his career around with a win over an undefeated opponent in Equatorial Guinea.
Last time out Nico Ali Walsh lost to Juan Carlos Guerra Jr. It was a close fight. Yet, like his famous Grandfather whose greatest wins came after his first defeat at the hands of Joe Frazier – Nico Ali Walsh bounced back in Africa at the Sipopo Conference Centre in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
The American fighter overcame an early blitz from pressure fighter Ebenezer Sowah. The undefeated Ghanian fighter was clearly looking for knockout. Instead Nico Ali Walsh regained control after a tough fifth round to earn the victory.
For Nico Ali Walsh it was a trip in which the echoes of the Rumble of the Jungle stood large as did his grandfather’s humanitarian legacy. The young fighter made an inspirational trip to an orphanage in Malabo and offered some of the youths boxing tips.
Nico Ali Walsh exhausted from his fight, still took the mike to address the crowd with some surprising remarks.”
“I want to dedicate this fight to the great George Foreman and the Foreman family. And God Bless everyone," said Nico Ali Walsh.
The legendary George Foreman, one of his grandfather’s most famous opponents passed away earlier this year.
