One of the Vikings' toughest opponents just had their world turned upside down

The Minnesota Vikings got off to a great start on Sunday with a 28-6 win over the New York Giants. It was an impressive victory for a number of reasons, including the potential of quarterback Sam Darnold's renaissance.

The beginning of their toughest stretch on the schedule starts in week two against the San Francisco 49ers. They received some potentially good news with Green Bay Packers potentially missing their week four matchup at Lambeau Field and received other potentially good news as well.

San Francisco 49ers might be without a star player in Week 2

The 49ers released their inactive shortly before they played the New York Jets on Monday night and it surprisingly included running back Christian McCaffrey. He was dealing with a calf injury and it might not stop there.

During the Monday Night Countdown pregame show on ESPN, Adam Schefter said that it might not end there. There is a chance that he could miss the game against the Vikings on Sunday.

That could be massive for the Vikings trying to get to 2-0. Last season, they beat the 49ers on Monday Night Football without Justin Jefferson while they were without Trent Williams and Deebo Samuel.

Not having McCaffrey could be a huge factor for the Vikings as they look to earn a playoff spot in a reloading year.
